Ruth Lorber Rosen, 88, passed away on August 4, 2018 after an exceptionally rich and full life. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and lived all but two years in Clayton, Missouri, with summers and early fall in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, where her father had founded and directed Camp Nebagamon for Boys. She attended Wydown Junior High School and Clayton High School. She began her college years at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, but after two years returned to Clayton to complete a B.S. in social work at Washington University, marry and raise four children. For years she worked with children with learning disabilities, and later returned to school in her forties for paralegal certification. Ruth co-founded Legal Assistance of St. Louis, the first freelance paralegal business in St. Louis. She embraced people from every walk of life, no matter their background. Her enormous interpersonal gifts drew her great love and admiration from young and old. She was a woman deeply devoted to family and friends, and her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was a wonderful mother-in-law and had many close friends, some for as long as 75 years. She was also devoted to a long list of dogs throughout her joyful life. She was married to Robert Mendelsohn for nearly 25 years, with whom she raised her four children: Michael, Jim, Nancy, and Tom. She was then married for more than 27 years to the late Bert Rosen. His daughters, Lee Scissors and Lynn Barth, and their families became a loving part of her life for four decades. Her much-loved companion of the past several years, Ralph Herzmark made her life immeasurably richer as well. She is also survived by her sister Sally Stein, her six children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
