Ruth Brockman Halpern

Ruth Brockman Halpern, 87, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019.

Born September 17, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest twin of David and Jean Brockman. Ruth graduated from high school at the age of 15, and went on to graduate from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a degree in Social Work at the age of 19.

She met the love of her life, Herb Halpern, at Mizzou, and the two were married in Kansas City in November 1952. Ruth and Herb moved to Memphis, Tennessee where Ruth worked as a social worker before the pair transferred to St. Louis, Missouri to start and then raise their family.

As a life long nurturer fascinated by medicine, Ruth went back to school at the age of 50 and became a registered nurse. Ruth enjoyed volunteering as an RN at the local hospital in the prenatal and neonatal units.

Ruth and Herb lived in St. Louis for over 50 years before moving to Texas in 2009 to enjoy their family here and the mild winters. She loved a vigorous game of bridge.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Herb. She is survived by her children, Karen Halpern Bailey, Andy (Cheryl) Halpern, Steve (Stacy) Halpern, Susie (Joel) Carp; her grandchildren, Zach Bailey; Eric and Tyler Halpern; Abby, Tali and David Halpern; Samantha, Rachel and Jeffrey Carp; and her twin brother Richard (Charlotte) Brockman.

The family would like to thank the community and staff at the Legacy Willow Bend and Legacy at Home Health for their outstanding care and support for both Ruth and Herb. Ruth will be missed dearly by all whose lives she touched.
