Ruby Phillips

Ruby Phillips, died March 10, 2014 peacefully in her sleep. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Phillips. Dear mother of Steven (Cookie) Phillips and Dr. Daniel (Dr. Linda Horne) Phillips. Loving grandmother of Drew Corey (Jessica) Phillips, Craig (Shelly) Phillips, Jodi (Greg) Widerski, Benjamin (Laura Fuhrman) Phillips, Aaron (Bobae) Phillips, and Hannah Phillips. Dear great-grandmother of five. Beloved sister of the late Lou (Zelda) Okon.  A  beloved friend to so many; her warmth, spirit and compassion will be missed by all who knew her. Ruby had many passions in life, and after a career in banking she devoted her time to mediating for the St. Louis County Courts; counseling juvenile offenders at the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center; teaching remedial reading to students at the local high schools; helping adults prepare for the GED program; and teaching English as a second language to graduate students at Washington University. She served as a member of the UMSL-St. Louis County Extension Boards. She was filled with a love of life, and lived hers well – it was a generous life, filled with love and teddy bears. Funeral services were held in New York on Thursday, March 13.  A memorial service will be held in St. Louis in early April.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to CARE, P.O.
