Ronald Marshall Burde, M.D., died February 23, 2015 of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease. Beloved husband of Sharon (nee Kaplan); devoted father of Howard, Bradley and Jeffrey; loving father-in-law of Evelyn; cherished grandfather of Ariel, Simone and Jed; doting older brother of Brenda and devoted friend to Paulette Lipton and Shawn Bowman. Born December 24, 1938 to Helene and Eli Burde in New York City. A graduate of the Thomas Jefferson College of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ronald Burde was a world-renowned Ophthalmologist and Neuro-Ophthalmologist. Primary author and editor of twelve books and presenter of over 150 lectures on ophthalmology and neuro-opthalmology; retired as Chairman of Ophthalmology and Neuro-Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York; previously Professor of Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. Ron trained at Washington University and served on the faculty from 1965-1987; recipient of honors too numerous to mention. His greatest pride and pleasures were his family, his residents and fellows, and the thousands of patients whose lives he impacted. A healer. A teacher.
