Robert “Rik” Knopf, died on May 16, 2013 following a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in West Hempstead, New York, he was raised in Dallas, Texas where he was a 1961 graduate of Hillcrest High School. Rik and his wife Susie Daniels Knopf, moved to St. Louis in 1989 to open Expressions Custom Furniture, the first furniture stores to introduce custom upholstery to the area. Rik, 70, retired from the business after 24 years. Before opening the St. Louis store in Frontenac, he was vice president of franchising for Expressions. After opening the St. Louis store he became president of Expressions National Franchise Council. A graduate of Tulane University, Rik was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He was president of Moot Court and editor of the Journal of Air Law and Commerce at Southern Methodist University School of Law where he received his JD degree. Rik was in private law practice in Dallas and then moved to Denver, CO to become vice president and general counsel of Shakey’s Pizza, a subsidiary of Hunt International. He then returned to Dallas to work for another subsidiary, Great Western United. A member of Congregation Temple Israel, Rik enjoyed travel, golf, skiing, poker and his coffee and lunch groups. He is remembered by his family and friends for his wonderful sense of humor, wit, and kindness and generosity and his support of local and national charities. Rik is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Susie Daniels Knopf; two deeply loved children, Randy (Amy) Knopf and Jennifer (Scott) Bernstein; two adored grandchildren, Rebecca Knopf and Ari Bernstein. He is survived by his beloved sister Candy (Leo) Hyman of Dallas, TX; and brother Jonathan (Susan) Knopf of Warren, NJ. He is survived by his loving mother Sherry Crasilneck and the late Albert Knopf; his loving mother-in-law Claire and the late Werner Daniels. Survivors also include very special brothers-in-law Dr. John Daniels of St. Louis and Jeff Daniels, Aventura, FL, eight nieces and nephews. Funeral service Sunday, May 19, 2:00 pm at Congregation B’nai Amoona, 324 S. Mason Road. No visitation prior to service. Private interment.
