Robert Hurwitz

Robert Hurwitz, died on March 10, 2013 at 99 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Lucille Spitzer Hurwitz, Mr. Hurwitz is survived by his daughter Joan (the late Ron) Brown of Orinda CA; his son James D. (Suzanne) Hurwitz of Washington, DC; his son Richard Hurwitz of Godfrey, ILL; his grandchildren Lisa (John) Tillotson of Concord CA; Jeff (Kelly) Brown of Irvine, CA; Anna (Michael) Upston of New York, New York; and Ellen Lamken of Paris, France; and six great grandchildren, Jace and Joss Tillotson, Nora Brown, Madeleine, Clara and Oliver Upston. Bob was born in St. Louis in 1914 and graduated from Washington University. He served as president of Burdie’s Hat Shops, a chain of millinary shops started by his mother Anna Hurwitz. After marrying Lucille Spitzer, the love of his life, he served in World War II, landing on Utah Beach and participating in five of the six major campaigns in the War. When the war ended he returned to Clayton where, along with his brother-in-law Jerry Spitzer, he took the reins of the Ritepoint Pen and Pencil Co, an advertising specialty company, from which he retired in 1971. During his retirement, Bob and his beloved wife Lucille took great joy in their many trips throughout the world.
