Robert D. “Bob” Rothbarth

Robert D. “Bob” Rothbarth, died April 30, 2011 at the age of 84. Born February 4, 1927; father of James, Mary, Jean, John and Leo; father-in-law of Diana, Beth and Murray; grandfather of : Betsy (Matt), Julie (Mike), Jeffrey (Lindsay), Adam, Drew, Jennifer, Scott, Rachel, and Ian; great-grandfather of Abby, Molly, and Sarah; brother of Dorothy and Phyllis; dear late brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Graduating at 16 from Clayton High School, he then attended Purdue University before enlisting in the Merchant Marines to fight in World War II. He was a radio officer on one of only two underwater cable repair ships in the world. He owned a multi-state manufacturing company, which he loved and nurtured with a strong work ethic, for more than forty-five years. His sense of humor and generosity were well known throughout his life. He enjoyed many hobbies and interests, was a fine golfer, with a lifetime scorecard of five hole-in-ones, which he attributed to luck. He was a licensed multi-engine, seaplane and instrument rated pilot who felt most at peace in the air and also enjoyed boating and fishing, especially at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. Bob loved music. On his fifth date with Audrey, who was soon to become his beloved wife, they went to hear the St. Louis Symphony. When he enjoyed the concert she knew he was the man for her. His family will always think of him when hearing La Boheme, Beethoven, Pete Fountain, or Frank Sinatra. The family will be honoring a life well lived. Burial services will be private.
