Passed away on March 26, 2022 after a two-decade battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Precious wife of the late Albert Hirson for over 62 years until his death in 2017. Beloved mother of Diane and Judith, adored Nana of Chelsea (Tim) Pequignot.
Rita was born on September 12, 1927 in Vicksburg, Miss., and was the only child of Ries and Ruth (Bock) Feith. After graduating high school in Monroe, La., Rita worked for the Sunbird Seaplane Base, where she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Rita piloted seaplanes and soloed on flights throughout the south. She moved to St. Louis in the early 1950’s and met Albert at a Jewish singles dance at United Hebrew Congregation on Skinker Boulevard.
A Girl Scout since her youth, Rita volunteered for Girl Scouts of Greater St. Louis for over 30 years. Rita was also a docent at the Missouri Botanical Garden for over 30 years, bowler, active member of B’nai El and its Sisterhood, avid Cardinals and Blues fan, gardener, camper, and proud southern Jew.
Graveside service Wednesday, March 30, 10:00 a.m. at United Hebrew Cemetery, 7855 Canton Avenue. Contributions in Rita’s memory may be made to the Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110, the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, P.O.
