Ralph Lowenbaum, III

Ralph Lowenbaum, III

Ralph Lowenbaum, III, died July 8, 2014. Beloved husband of Barbara Lowenbaum for 63 years.  Dear father and father-in-law of Michael and Lecie Lowenbaum, Cathy and Wally Glaser, and Edward and Julie Lowenbaum.  “Bumpa” to Scott and Max Lowenbaum, Lee and Alex Glaser, and Andy and Katie Lowenbaum.  Loving brother-in-law, uncle, friend and happy owner of Benny, his dog. Ralph was born in St. Louis in 1925.  He attended Clayton High School and studied at Washington University in the School of Fine Arts.  He served in the Army in WWII and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland.  He then went to work for R Lowenbaum Mfg in sales and design. Ralph was truly a renaissance man.  He was an accomplished artist: drawing, painting, sculpting and woodworking.  Ralph taught painting classes and was involved in numerous art shows.  He was also a gifted gardener and landscaper.  He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, skiing and boating.   He loved to cook for his family and friends and was well known for his spicy cuisine.  Ralph was also known for having a big heart, donating his time to many charities and finding work for unemployed immigrants and minorities. Ralph loved to laugh and found the humor in life.  We will always remember him sitting on his deck with his cigar, his dog and his friends. Memorial service Friday, July 11, 11:00 AM at Temple Israel – May Chapel, #1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive (Ladue and Spoede Roads).  No visitation prior to service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Avenue, St. Louis, MO, 63110, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
