Paul Arenberg

Paul Arenbergpassed away Aug. 8, 2016, from complications following a traffic accident. Paul was a retired businessman and loyal supporter of numerous community and cultural groups.

His volunteer civic work included serving as a board member of Central Institute for the Deaf, Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis, The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and Radio Arts Foundation of St. Louis, and as a trustee of St. Louis Symphony.

Paul was born in Highland Park, IL, in 1931. He received a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard University.

In 1959, Paul joined his father, Milton, in the family business in Chicago, commuting from St. Louis for more than 40 years as he built and expanded Barclay Marine Distributor Corporation.

Paul, 84, was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, of 51 years. He is survived by his children: Tom (Pam) of Birmingham, AL, Susan (Michael Schultz) of Chicago, John of St. Louis and Steve of Chicago; grandchildren Ben (Gwen) of St. Louis and Sam of Austin, TX; and brother Kenneth of Chicago.

Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m. at Temple Israel, followed by a “Celebration of Life” service at 2 p.m. at the temple. The family will hold a private graveside service and requests no home visits.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Central Institute for the Deaf, The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, or Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis.
