Myrnalee Braverman

Myrnalee Braverman, died March 6, 2011 at the age of 80 in Leawood, Ks. Born in St. Louis, Mo. to the late Joseph and the late Sadie (Blank) Silverstein; married to Abe Braverman, M.D. December 23, 1951 for almost 60 years; mother of Carolyn G. Braverman-Goldwasser (Joe) ofOverland Park, Kan/ and Mimi S. Braverman (Brian Thompson) of San Rafael, Calif.; sister of the late Lenore Rosen; sister and brother-in-law of Sandy and Rabbi Sylvin Wolf, Naples, Fl; sister-in-law of Isadore “Bud” Rosen of St. Louis, Mo.; grandmother of Hannah Rose Dolginoff of Overland Park, Kan. She attended Harris Teachers College to obtain a degree in primary education. Hearing her mother play piano nurtured a lifelong love of music, and she became an accomplished musician and accompanist. After raising a family, she turned her love of music toward her faith, becoming (in the beginning) accompanist to the cantor at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. She then became music coordinator at The Temple, started a volunteer choir and helped children learn and prepare for their B’nai Mitzvot. She was a co-founder of Yachad – The Traveling Tefillah Band and was their keyboardist. She was musically connected to many congregations and was a lifelong member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and participated in many musical services at local and national congregations. She also held leadership positions in several national Jewish music organizations. Mrs. Braverman taught music at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy and encouraged or mentored many promising students of all ages. Her work in music continued up until her retirement in May 2010. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and were touched by her music. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery, 9125 Ladue Rd., Ladue, Mo. 63124. A memorial service will then be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Mo. 64131.
