Morrie M. Mayer, August 17, 1946 – February 26, 2025
Our beloved father, Morrie M. Mayer, passed away peacefully in Heart to Heart Hospice House in Houston, Texas on February 26, 2025 at the age of 78.
Morrie was born in Austria in 1946 to Ben and Esther Mayer – both Holocaust survivors who traveled across the ocean with Morrie to begin a new life in the United States after WWII. His childhood in St. Louis, MO instilled a lifelong passion for family, work, and creativity. Morrie graduated from University City High School in 1964 where he met his wife Nancy and many friends with whom they stayed in touch. Morrie attended the Missouri University of Science and Technology where he earned his undergraduate degree in Ceramic Engineering. While climbing the corporate ladder, he worked weekends serving in the Army Reserves. Later, Morrie obtained his MBA from Indiana State University. He had an exciting career as both an engineer and business executive which allowed him the opportunity to travel extensively. In his second act, he harnessed that love of family, work, and creativity and formed Bytes of Life – a digital media production company which was a source of joy and pride into his retirement.
He leaves behind his children Harrison Mayer (and his wife Ada), Rikki Mayer Franklin (and her husband George), 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and two sisters Eleanor Lynch (and her husband Jim) and Barb Mayer-Douglas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jo Mayer, to whom he was married for 56 years. Nancy passed away in November 2024.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by invitation only. The family asks that donations to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society be made in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
