Minette Sachar Halpern Laba, died on September 30, 2011 after a prolonged illness. Widow of Dr. Saul Halpern and widow of Harry Laba; daughter of the late Charles and the late Clara Sachar; sister of the late Dr. Leo Sachar and Alvin (Lenora) Sachar, Dr. Alan (Judy) Halpern of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Barbara Furey of Portland, Maine; Dr. Edward (Susan Fliesher) of St. Louis, grandmother of seven in whom she took immeasurable pride: David Fliesher, Jacob Furey and his fiancee Elise Wilson, Leslie Halpern, Diana Furey (Brian) Sandelovsky Sarah Fliesher, Amy Halpern and Brian Furey. She grew up in St. Louis and attended Washington University. She married Dr. Saul Halpern, the nephew of Rabbi Abraham Halpern, and they moved to Danville, Illinois, where she raised her family and was very active in the community. Upon the death of her husband, she returned to St. Louis and married Mr. Harry Laba, who, with his brother Joe, built Jefferson Printing Company. The family would like to thank the excellent caregivers from Continuum, the supportive staff at the Brentmoor, and the staff at Alternative Hospice for their compassion and special attention.
