Mildred “Millie” Kaufman

Mildred “Millie” Kaufman, Ph.D., died September 11, 2015 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. She was 85. A memorial service in St. Louis for family friends will be held at a date TBD.
Mildred was born January 28, 1930 in Rochester, NY to David and Henrietta May (Friedlander) Kantor. She graduated from the University of Rochester and received her Doctorate in Sociology from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. She was on the faculty of both Washington University and St. Louis University.
Millie married Dr. Robert Kaufman on May 19, 1968 and they made their home in St. Louis, MO. She worked as the Director of the Health Data Center of St. Louis County until her retirement 1995. Millie was involved in many civic and cultural organizations including the St. Louis Symphony, Union Avenue Opera, Repertory Theater of St. Louis, St. Louis Art Center, Life Long Learning at Washington University for which she was one of the founders, Washington University Women’s Club, Jewish Federation and United Hebrew Congregation.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; son, Rabbi David (Julie) Kaufman of West Des Moines; grandchildren: Hanna, Eliana and Avi Kaufman of West Des Moines; sister, Joan (Bill) Shackelford of St. Louis, MO.
