Maxine Bromberg, January 1, 1918 – May 19, 2018
Maxine Pressman Bromberg passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 100. Maxine married her first husband, Jack Berg, in 1936. After his sudden death she took over running Berg Machinery Business and became the first woman in the U.S. to run such a business, eventually selling it. Maxine met her second husband, Arthur Bromberg, on a blind date. They married in 1951, combining their families, and lived a very active life together, enjoying their love of golf, bridge, the Symphony, travel, entertaining and could always be found on the dance floor.
Maxine pursued a career in Interior Design; was a member of the American Society of Interior Design, and her business flourished for many years under the name “Mrs. Mac”. Maxine and Arthur were active members of Congregation Shaare Emeth, and Maxine was very instrumental in the design and interiors of the new Congregation Shaare Emeth, helping to incorporate the beautiful Chihuly glasswork. She volunteered for many organizations – Presidency of JCRS, the American Red Cross, Central Institute for the Deaf, Miriam School, and the Butterfly House. She was always known for her love of butterflies in paintings, china, artwork, and was known as the “Butterfly Lady”. She was an avid player of Mah Johng and could be found at Meadowbrook, Westwood, the Gatesworth or anywhere there was a game. She loved to read and always had a new mystery at hand. Maxine was surrounded by the love of many lifelong friends, many of with whom she reconnected when she moved into the Gatesworth.
She was beloved most especially by her children Judy Bargman of El Paso, TX, Jay L. (Barry) Solomon of Ft. Myers, FL., Joyce Bromberg of Torrance, CA, and the late Kenny Bromberg; her grandchildren, Ellen and Paul Gulbas, David Rothbardt, Jo Ann Rothbardt (deceased), Lori Solomon, Andy and Jill Solomon, Steve and Jennifer Solomon; fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. “Gigi” touched many lives, and leaves behind a great legacy and a family who will greatly miss her cheerfulness, advice, optimism and love beyond measure.
The family will receive guests on Monday, May 21 at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road from 2:30pm until 6:30pm. Private family services were held. A special thank you for the support and love given by the Staff at the Gatesworth who especially helped to make the last several years of our mother’s life a home of contentment and caring. We also appreciate the loving care given in the last stage of her life by the staff of Evelyn’s House. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to an organization of your choice.
