Max Marcus

Max Marcus, died December 24, 2014 at age 92 in La Jolla, Calif. Born in St. Louis, Mo. January 14, 1922. Beloved husband of the late Trudy Abrams Marcus for 55 years; dear father and father-in-law of Sharon Marcus of Boca Raton, Fl., Allan (Tanja) Marcus of San Diego, Calif., Diane (John) Jones of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Hadas Marcus of Israel. Devoted “Pappy” to 10 grandchildren, loving Uncle and Great-Uncle Maxie to many nieces and nephews. Dear brother and brother-in-law to Dorothy (Mel) Schwartz, Ruth (the late Bob) Cohn, Gloria Abrams Sall, the late Frances Marcus, the late Esther (the late Jesse) Hyman, and the late Dorothy Gallo. Max graduated from Soldan High School in 1940. He served in the Army during WWII as a lieutenant. He then graduated from Washington University School of Engineering in 1947 under the G.I. bill. He moved to California in the early 1950s where he founded and operated Federal Steel Co. until his retirement. Always close to family and friends in St. Louis, Max came to town to share many events. When in town he always contacted his long-time friends from the Council House. The club they formed over 70 years ago, the Novics, remained a special bond through the years. Max lived an adventurous life and enjoyed it to the fullest.  A celebration of his life was held in San Diego on December 26. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
