Linda S. Barton died on Sunday, August 11th 2019, at the age of 79. She was the beloved mother of Jason Barton and Caitlin Barton-Landfield, mother-in-law of Matthew Landfield, grandmother of Benjamin, and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Louis and Evelyn Satz, and by her sister and brother, Marilyn Smith and Robert Satz.

Linda was born on February 12, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her BA in English from Washington University in 1962. Linda worked first as an editor at McGraw Hill, then in her own business, and later as a writer at Edward Jones. She loved books and taught her children and grandson a love of reading.

Linda was a talented classical pianist at an early age. She was University City High School’s orchestra pianist, and while she considered studying piano at the Juilliard School, she chose to stay in St. Louis, attend college, and raise a family (with her ex-husband, Albert Barton).

Linda was a loving mother and grandmother and a wonderful friend. She hosted many dinners and Passover seders, and was an admired cook, baker, and avid knitter. She grew a Japanese maple tree and daylilies in her beloved, hummingbird-frequented backyard garden. She had a strong sense of style and an affinity for designer shoes, and she wore them well!

Linda was a pioneer in many ways, making her home in the Central West End, and helping to start Central Reform Congregation (CRC), a synagogue in the city of St. Louis.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 at CRC at 5020 Waterman Blvd. in St. Louis, with a visitation at 10:30am and a funeral service at 11am. A private family ceremony will follow the memorial service.
