Linda Dubinsky Skrainka

Linda Dubinsky Skrainka, died June 2, 2014 at age 74. Wife of much beloved husband of 52 years of surprises and beauty, Stephen W. Skrainka; her loving children, Benjamin, Sarah, and Kate (Eric Stradal) Skrainka; her devoted brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Louise Gish) and John (Yvette Drury) Dubinsky; her adoring nieces and nephew, Anne (Mike Altman), Eleanor, and Frank Dubinsky; great-ne,phews, Joseph and Aaron Altman; and their loyal dog, Wizard.  She was preceded in death by her parents Saul A. and Dorothy (Pearlstein) Dubinsky. Linda was a mother, an artist, a gardener, an athlete, and an enduring friend to many. After earning an AB in art history at Wellesley College with a focus on modern art and architecture — a lifelong passion — she worked for Alfred Barr at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York.  Returning to St. Louis, she earned a BFA from Washington University. Soon she started a family, sharing her passion for art, justice, and culture with her children even before they took their first steps. Throughout her life, she worked enthusiastically and creatively for art, music, and social justice, including Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Art St. Louis, COCA, the Central Reform Congregation, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis. Linda provided unbounded warm, steady inspiration and wisdom to many on aesthetic, botanical, personal, and social issues. She will be greatly missed by her entire family and a large community of loyal friends, gardeners, artists, and many others with whom she shared herself. Funeral service: 12:30 pm, Tues., June 3, Central Reform Congregation, 5020 Waterman Blvd., St. Louis, 63108, followed by private burial. The family will welcome visitors at the Skrainka home, in University City, on Wed., June 4, from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be sent to Opera Theatre of St. Louis or the Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis. Rindskopf-Roth
