Leonard Kaye, January 21, 2025
Beloved father of David Kaye. Dear step-father of Amy Beal and the late Michael Beal. Loving grandfather of Erica Rolf and Heidi Moentman. Dear brother of Alan (Josephine) Kaye and the late Jonas (Gudren) Kaye. Beloved son of the late Rebecca and Joseph Kaye. Dear great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
Leonard was born and lived in Herzliya, Israel until he was ten years old. After his family moved to St. Louis, he attended Soldan Blewett High School and then Washington University where he studied architectural engineering. One of Leonard’s early jobs was working for the Tennessee Valley Authority on the design of a wind tunnel. He quickly learned the business world of general contracting and government contracts. Leonard opened his own construction business and had great success; building and remodeling many buildings around town and in Illinois.
Leonard was a wonderful father to his children and was always accepting of any of their career choices. He was proud to be the grandson of Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz who was the chief rabbi of St. Louis in the early 1900’s. He was also an avid pilot, and loved flying his Cessna 182, continuing to do so until his hearing became too poor.
Funeral service Monday, January 27, 11:30am at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road with interment to follow at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery, 9125 Ladue Road. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
