Laurence Bernard (“Laury”) Epstein

Dr. Laurence Bernard (“Laury”) Epstein, January 20, 2016.

Laury, of Creve Coeur, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born July 15, 1936, in Mt. Vernon Ohio. He attended West Point (class of 1959) and Ohio State University before receiving his doctorate in military history from the University of Southern California. He had an active mind with many interests—history, photography, politics, sports—and he took great pleasure in long conversations on just about any topic. He had an unquenchable curiosity about people and the world, and his giant heart, sense of humor, and zest for life was apparent to all who met him. He had a genius for friendship and love, and to the end of his life he continued to make new friends.

Laury is survived by his son Russell Epstein of Philadelphia, daughter and son-in-law Erica and James Corcoran of Park Ridge Ill., adoring grandchildren Finn Laurence and Evan James Corcoran, sister and brother-in-law Micki and Dr. Marvin Brook of Shaker Heights Ohio, former wife Marilyn Epstein, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Anne Epstein.
