Born on October 14, 1932, in Louisville, KY, to Isadore and Evelyn Levine, Joyce was a 1954 graduate of the University of Missouri, where she received a BA in Journalism and was a proud Tiger Cheerleader. Later, in 1984, Joyce earned her Masters in Liberal Arts from Washington University. Joyce was an avid reader, writer and dog lover, taught English to Russian immigrants, was a Board Member at the Animal Protective Association, and was a devoted fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Louisville Cardinals basketball. From 1999 to 2022, Joyce primarily lived on Sanibel Island, FL, where she had many friends and was a 22 year volunteer at the front desk of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge.
Above all else, Joyce was devoted to her sons and grandchildren, spending most of her adult life reading to them, monitoring homework, volunteering as an Elementary School Nurse, and attending their various school activities, including football, basketball, baseball, wrestling and hockey games. Whatever the outcome, Joyce was an energized, unruffled, positive force, always with a smile, and a wonderful sense of humor.
