John Jeremias Stein

John Jeremias Stein, November 21, 2018

The beloved uncle to Rabbi Stephen Chicurel-Stein, Dr. Steven Chicurel-Stein, Lara Rachlin Steinel, Daniel V. Steinel and dear friend to the staff of Gentry Park Assisted Living in Orlando, FL, died peacefully, listening as he wished, to the music of Mozart.

Born in 1938 in Nazi Germany, John and his family found refuge in St. Louis, where he lived and graduated from SIU-Edwardsville. His service as a Navy submariner was a highlight in his life, and he was proud to have worked both as a social worker caring for the indigent, and later for decades, as the warehouse manager for Midwest Industrial Chemicals.

Every animal John encountered, he adored, and they him, most particularly his adopted dogs and cats. Great music and the fine arts filled his soul with joy and meaning, and he always showed affection and gratitude to anyone who was kind to him.

He is gone, but his light shines on.

Funeral services with military honors will be held Friday, December 21, 11 a.m., at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Contributions in his memory to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will be deeply appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, Orlando, Fla.
