JEFFREY CHARLES RAYMOND, 56, formerly of St. Louis, suddenly in Baltimore, Maryland on October 27, 2019.

He was the beloved husband of Beth Cohen Raymond, proud father of Seth James Raymond, much loved son of Alan (Myra Rosenthal) Raymond and Merle Alper (Arnold) Cole, dear brother of Amy (Tim Dale) and Greg (Brandi Fisher) Raymond, beloved uncle, nephew, cousin, brother in law, son in law, neighbor, and friend to many.

Jeff was a graduate of John Burroughs where he excelled academically and played football. He earned a political science degree at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

He was a reporter on papers in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois before moving to Baltimore and joining the old Patuxent Publishing Company. He was part of a team that covered Baltimore County government. From 1997 to 2006 he was a real estate and economic development reporter for The Daily Record in downtown Baltimore. He was later its web team editor and managing editor for business.

He joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2006 and handled media relations over the years for various schools within the University. In 2013 he joined the Baltimore’s Department of Public Works. Jeff served as the Director of Communications with oversight and responsibility for all media related matters. Jeff was known as the face and voice of the Baltimore Department of Public Works due to his many appearances on television and radio as well as in print and online media. His fairness and promptness in dealing with the media earned him respect among journalists, colleagues and friends.

“He was a serious and conscientious journalist. He also had a great sense of humor,” said Tom Linthicum, former executive editor of The Daily Record and a former Baltimore Sun editor.

Rudy Chow, director of the department of Public Works said, “He used his communications expertise to explain technical and very complicated department initiatives.”

Jeff was the media and communication director of the Bolton Street Synagogue in Baltimore.Jeff was an avid Cardinals fan, piloted airplanes, played catcher on local baseball teams, and marched in parades with decorated lawn mowers with his beloved Lawn Rangers.

With his wife he appreciated art, music, neighborhood festivals and new foods.
