Jean Racowsky

Jean Racowsky, died April 20, 2013. Devoted wife for 52 years of the late Sam Racowsky.  Loving mother of David Benjamin, Beth Yarus and Sherrie (Al) Bell.  Dear sister of Joe (late Jean) Stevens. Aunt of Susan Owen and the late Sandy Stevens. Friend to many, many dear people, especially Jan and Sid Schoenfeld. She belonged to and supported many animal and civic groups.  She started and edited the Zoo Volunteers Newsletter and helped start the Zoo Tribute Fund; The Butterfly House( a division of the Botanical Garden) from its beginning and a charter member of the Humane Society Auxiliary; Op Spot, a spay/neuter group and the Animal Rights Alliance which was one of the first animal welfare groups in St. Louis and the Wolf Sanctuary.  She supported the St. Louis Symphony for 40 years, the Art Museum, the History Museum, the Museum of Transportation and the Frank Lloyd Wright home. Over the years she cared for many animals, everything from Louie the chicken to turtles and bunnies.  Her special cat (Mazek) lived to be 21 and her Pouffie cat lived to be 22 ½.  There were many, many other cats and dogs along the way and still are.  A kind and generous person, she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers and other tributes she asked that you please send (no matter the amount) a memorial to CHAI Concern for Helping Animals, PO Box 3341, Alexandria, VA. 22302. Special love and gratitude to my daughter Beth who so lovingly cared for me. Graveside services at New Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 8430 Gravois, St. Louis at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23.  No home visitation or shiva trays please.  For more information please go to www.bergermemorialchapel.com. Berger Memorial
