Lester Einbender,, age 88, died Sept. 7, 2008 in St. Joseph, Mo.

Widower of Rhoda Mantel; father of the late Michael Einbender, Ron Einbender and his partner Ann Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Lisa (Michael) Samis of Chesterfield; son of the late Abraham and the late Sylvia (Levi) Einbender; brother of the late Edwin Einbender, the late Larry Einbender, Alvin (Joan) Einbender of New York, NY, Diana Flaster of Boynton Beach, Fl., and Selma Mantel of Houston, Tx.; grandfather of Joshua (Jill) Samis of Chicago, Ill., and Maxwell Samis of Chesterfield; brother-in-law of Gloria Einbender of Philadelphia, Pa., Jane Case Einbender of New York, NY and Diana Flaster of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and Selma Mantel of Houston, Tx.

He was president of Lee Company, Inc., an investment and leasing company in St. Joseph; owner of Royal Ambassador Travel of Missouri, formerly served as chairman and president of Honeybee Inc., and president of Einbender’s Inc. in St. Joseph. He was a member of Temple Adath Joseph, Temple B’nai Sholem, St. Joseph Lodge No. 78, A.F. and A.M., 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and Moila Shrine, a member of the board of trustees of the University of Missouri Jefferson Club and received the Distinguished Facility Alumni Award from the University of Missouri in 1999.

He was very active in the field of juvenile arthritis and lupus research, a member of the Missouri State Arthritis Advisory Board and served on the Board of the Lupus Foundation of America.

He and his late wife, Rhoda, established the Michael Einbender Distinguished Lectureship in Medical Research of Lupus at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo., which sponsors visiting lupus researchers and they endowed the Michael Einbender Distinguished Professorship in Medicine-Rheumatology, also at the University of Missouri.

Carolyn Glassman, died Sept. 27, 2008 at age 90. Frances Bollotin Koppelman, born April 16, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio, died September 15, 2008 in Tucson, Ariz. Widow of Edward Nathan Koppelman and widow of Morris Horowitz; daughter of Anna (Chaya) Slatkin and Solomon (Chaim) Bollotin, who were originally from Moghilo; mother of Susan (Dennis Lee Mills) Huddis Koppelman; grandmother of Edward Nathan (Ellen) Koppelman Cornillon; great-grandmother of Jasmine and Sarah of St. Louis; aunt of Gaye Finn Lewis of Virginia; aunt and great-aunt of Edward Nathan Koppelman, her first husband’s sister’s children and grandchildren.

Frances was a life-long devotee of theater and film, a participant in the Great Books program, one of the founders of the OASIS program in Cleveland, a member of the original board of advisors for the senior education program at Tri-C, the Cuyahoga Community College, a student at Cleveland State University in the film, theater, and literature departments. Worth; aunt Morton Meyerson of Dallas, Tx. During World War II, she served at Shepard Field in Wichita Falls as a clerk in the Quartermaster Corps maintaining supplies for the U.S. Army. She was a lifelong member of Temple Beth-El, where she frequently volunteered and served as president of Temple Beth-El Sisterhood.
