IRVIN H. BLUMFIELD, M.D. died February 19, 2009 in Longboat Key, Fla. Husband of Barbara Weiss Blumfield; father of Michael (Randi) of St. Paul, Minn., Laura (Greg) Moats of Belleville, Ill., and the late Robert; brother-in-law of Paul E. (Barbara) Weiss of Palo Alto, Ca; grandfather of Jennifer of Atlanta, Ga., Ryan Moats of Belleville, Ill. and Anna and Isaac Blumfield of St. Paul, Minn. Born in Philadelphia, Dr. Blumfield earned his BA at Temple University, became a pharmacist and then attended Jefferson Medical College becoming a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. He served in Japan during the Korean War, settled in Alton, Ill., practicing medicine for 40 years, delivering 10,000 babies. An active member of his community, he was Chief of Obstetrics at Alton Memorial Hospital, president of Temple Israel; a member of the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Upon retirement, he moved to Longboat Key, where he was an active participant at the Selby Library Music Archives, taught seniors to renew their driving skills, was a member of Temple Beth Israel and the Longboat Key Club.
