Widow of Harry Enger; mother of Sheldon (Rochelle) Enger, Joyce Weinstock (Robert Fauser) and Carol (Bruce) Canis; grandmother of Rabbi Cindy Enger of Bellingham, Wash., Marc (Jenny) Enger, Dr. Kevin (Nancy) Enger, Juli (Tim) Laramie, Vicki (Chris) Robinson, Keith (Jennifer) Gerstein, Rachel Canis and Randy (Terri) Canis; great-grandmother of 15; sister of the late Florence Oldenburg. LESTER J. NATHAN, M. D. died November 27, 2009. Husband of Bobette (Bobbi) Kaplan Nathan for 50 years; father of Mindy Nathan and Dr. Charles (Bridget) Nathan; grandfather of Spencer and Jonathon Nathan; brother of Louise Lotman of Lincoln, Neb.; son-in-law of Dorothy Kaplan and brother-in-law of Alan Kaplan; son of the late Charles and the late Sarah Nathan; brother of the late Estelle and the late Jesse; son-in-law of the late Harry Kaplan. Dr. Nathan was born in Omaha, Neb. and came to St. Louis for his internship and residency in general surgery at Jewish Hospital. Upon completion, he joined the surgical staff and clinical teaching staff at Jewish Hospital, where he practiced for 30 years. He was a WWII veteran, serving as a medic in the European Theatre. He was a much beloved husband, father, physician and friend. Dr. Nathan devoted much of his time serving the community as a physician, consultant, board member of Chai and Covenant House and was an active member of the Jewish Federation. His family is very grateful for the compassionate and supportive care of his Continuum caregivers.
