ROBERT MAURICE MAYER, died January 20, 2010 at the age of 87. Widower of Marjorie Wolf Mayer; loving father of Nancy Shane, Sally (James) Peters, Catherine (Robert) Pickard, and Mary (John) Sollinger; grandfather of Brisa (Mark) Trinchero, Marjorie Sollinger, Austin Peters, Lauren Pickard, Tess Sollinger, Joseph Pickard, and Griffin Sollinger; great-grandfather of Jayd Sollinger; brother of Alan L. (the late Silvia) Mayer; cherished uncle, brother-in-law, cousin, friend and mentor. In 1960, Mr. Mayer co-founded St. Louis Paper and Box Company, where he continued to work until shortly before his death. Among those who knew him well, he was noted for his keen mind, quick wit, and clever way with words. To many others, he was known simply as “the Snickers man,” who spread joy through his practice of passing out Snickers candies to everyone he met, all over the world. ANTONIA RASICOVICI, died January 27, 2010 at the age of 92. She was born in Bucharest, Romania and immigrated to the United States in 1964, with her family, mother and sister. She worked for many years at Washington University Department of Ophthalmology as an Orthoptist, working mostly with young children. She greatly enjoyed the arts, being a regular attendant of the St. Louis Symphony and passionately knowledgeable in the area of the surrealist art movement, of which she was a part during her youth in Europe. She made many good friends in St. Louis, whom she valued immensely and had a positive influence on many young people. She was known by her friends as Annie or Tony and “Granny Tony” by some of the children in her life. Her loving and supporting family in Great Britain and in Canada will also keep her in their hearts. She was and always will be greatly loved by her niece, Madeleine and her children, Allison and Tom.
