Ilion Louis “Lou” Miller

Ilion Louis “Lou” Miller, born December 23, 1923 in Bonne Terre and died October 28, 2017 at his residence in University City.

Father of Ronald H. Miller and Charles J. Miller; grandfather of Joel Samuel Miller, father-in-law of Saar Ravid Miller, and great-grandfather of Ayelet Hannah Miller; son of the late Samuel H. and the late Sarah Miller; brother of the late Harold M. Miller, uncle cousin, and friend. Former husband of the late Joyce Gross Rimerman.

Miller was a pilot and a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II and was part of the Philippines Liberation and Asiatic Pacific campaigns. He was recalled to service in 1953 and received medals for Korean Service, China Service, United Nations Service, and National Defense Service. While stationed in Japan, Miller learned how to converse in the three major Japanese dialects by studying billboard advertisements.

Miller was President of Mr. Softee of the Mississippi Valley, Inc., and had vendors of the soft ice cream product from the Metropolitan St. Louis Area to Matoon, Illinois. During the 1960 United States Presidential campaign he conducted a local ice cream cone poll whose results were reported in The New York Times. Later he was also President of the St. Louis office of Bernard Haldane Associates, a retail career outplacement company. For many years he was a volunteer assisting Rosette Ellman in her residential property business.
