Herbert P. Halpern, 88, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, television and film producer and director, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019. Born June 24, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee, the oldest son of Thelma and C.L Halpern, Herb was a standout athlete and scholar and graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Journalism.
He met the love of his life, Ruthie Brockman, at Mizzou, and the two were married in Kansas City in November 1952. Herb began his advertising career in Memphis, and moved to St. Louis to work with several regional advertising agencies before making the leap to Procter & Gamble and moving his young family to Cincinnati.
Herb went on to build his own production company in St. Louis, which produced commercials and films and developed educational materials sold worldwide. Herb was devoted to his wife, their four children and nine grandchildren.
Outside of family, business and charitable work, Herb loved playing sports, particularly golf and tennis in his later years. He enjoyed a tough chess match and a vigorous discussion of world affairs or religion.
Herb is survived by his loving wife Ruthie, his children, Karen Halpern Bailey, Andy (Cheryl) Halpern, Steve (Stacy) Halpern, Susie (Joel) Carp; his grandchildren, Zach Bailey; Eric and Tyler Halpern; Abby, Tali and David Halpern; Samantha, Rachel and Jeffrey Carp; and his brother Gilbert (Beverly) Halpern.
The family would like to thank the community and staff at the Legacy Willow Bend and Legacy at Home Health for their outstanding care and support for both Herb and Ruth. Herb will be missed dearly by all whose lives he touched.
