Henrietta Freedman

Henrietta Freedman, passed away January 4th, 2018 at her home in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 95.  She died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family.  Henrietta was the beloved wife of the late Rudolph Freedman for 72 years.  She is survived by her three children Robert (Sari)Freedman, Judith Freedman (John Lawrence), and Richard Freedman (Ronda Moss); her grandchildren Aaron Freedman, Jason (Jen) Freedman, Andrew Freedman, Maisie Lawrence, Daniel Freedman, and Kevin Freedman; and her great-grandchildren Alex Freedman, Caroline Freedman, and Ethan Freedman.  Henrietta is the sister of the late Lillian (late Morris) Busch, Thelma (late Leon) Pultman, and Irvin (Rosalie) Winesuff.  She is a dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Henrietta will be remembered for her commitment to family, education, art and community. As a former President of the Jewish Community Relations Council, Congregation Shaare Emeth, and the Jewish Federation Women’s Division, she made numerous contributions to the Jewish community including helping to establish the St. Louis Holocaust Museum. Henrietta was also very active at Washington University in St Louis serving on the Board of Governors, through which she played an instrumental role in the founding of the Lifelong Learning program.  She believed that education was not just for the young, but a life-long pursuit.  Henrietta pursued her love of learning, art, and  self-expression throughout her life.

She also worked closely with her late husband Rudolph Freedman early in their marriage in running the Adolphus Hotel and then serving as Vice President of SEMCOR and helping it to become a leading distributor of industrial products in the midwest. 

For all her notable accomplishments, she received many honors including the Washington University Founders Award, Woman of Achievement, and an OWL Lifetime Achievement Award.  

Visitation will be held at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road on Wednesday, January 10th at 10 a.m. A memorial service follows at 10:30 a.m. Internment follows at New Mt.
