Heidi Lopata Sherman

Heidi Lopata Sherman, died January 23, 2014 at age 60. Loving wife of Allen W. Sherman; beloved daughter of the late Carolyn “Carrie” and the late Monte Lopata; dear sister and sister-in-law of Dr. Lee Lopata and Loren (Sandy) Lopata; step-mother and mother-in-law of David (Jamie) Sherman and Laura (Steve) Simberg, and step-grandmother of Brandon and Jordan Simberg, and Callan Sherman. In 1970 Heidi was introduced to Transcendental Meditation and was so taken with its results, she graduated Clayton High School a semester early and went to Europe to study with Maharishi. In 1972 she was made teacher of TM, being one of the youngest teachers of this world wide movement. She graduated from Washington University with a BFA in Graphic Design and Photography. Heidi worked as a creative director at Emerson electric where she art directed and produced the annual report. Heidi took post-graduate photography courses at University of Texas at Dallas and Harvard University in Boston. She managed her career in fine art photography while living in Dallas, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Her work was exhibited in Europe and widely throughout the United States. She was represented by galleries in New York City, Santa Fe, Dallas and Boston, and her works have been purchased by numerous private collectors and public museums including the St. Louis Art Museum. When she moved to Lancaster, PA, she turned her lifelong love of dogs into a company that chauffeured pets wherever they needed to go. In Lancaster, she was known as the “Pet Vet Taxi” lady. While living in Lancaster, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. She was a founding member of Friends of Photography at the Dallas Museum of Art and Forest Park Forever in St. Louis. In 1988, she married Allen W. Sherman and for the next 15 years, moved where Allen’s career took them. Heidi returned home to St. Louis in 2003 to care for her ailing parents. We will miss her energy, her infinite love, and her desire to help us in any way she could. Memorial service Wednesday, January 29th, 11:30 AM at the new Berger Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Blvd., 63132. Visitation begins at 10:45 AM.
