Harry M. Siegfried passed away on May 12, 2019, in Aurora, Colorado.  

Born September 8, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri to Isadore and Rosetta Siegfried. He attended Rossman’s, Hamilton, Glenridge, Wydown, and Clayton High School.  After three years in high school, he was accepted to Purdue University.   World War II intervened and in 1943, after one year at university, he joined the U.S. Navy. He preferred the Navy because of his enjoyment as a sea scout in his teen years.  He was accepted into the Eddy Electronics Program where the training was extensive and he was sent to schools in Chicago, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Corpus Christi, New York and Boston M.I.T. This qualified him for Aviation Electronics Technicians Mate 1/c.  After the war, Harry returned to Purdue to finish his degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

After working at McDonnell Aircraft Corp, he joined a family manufacturing company. He started in the factory facilities, gradually progressing and remaining there for 30 years, eventually becoming president.  The business was sold in 1981.  Harry then went into investor real estate remaining active through his 80’s.  

He had much interest in sailing, skiing and photography.  He was a founder, and first president, of the St. Louis Ski Club.  The club had ski trips in the United States, Canada and Europe, numbering six to eight trips a season.

Harry leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Monica Minkoff Siegfried; three sons, Marc, Eric, and Evan Siegfried; grandchildren, Lily, Ian, Anna, Michael and Shiloh Siegfried; nieces and nephews, Jan Nykin, Stephan and Sigi Offenbach. 

He was proud of his family and his ancestry.  One of his favorite stories was about the Washington Avenue Barber Shop in St. Louis.  Once, while his oldest son’s hair was being cut, the thought occurred to him that his son was the fourth generation to have a haircut in that same barber shop; his grandfather, father, himself, and last, his son. He thought it remarkable; he said “call the Post-Dispatch, they would want this in their People’s column,” but it didn’t happen.

Graveside service Friday, May 17, 1:00PM at New Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 8430 Gravois Road.  A funeral service was held, Wednesday, May 15 at B’nai Vail in Vail, Colorado.  Gifts in his memory may be made to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, or to The Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
