George Bernard Vermont

George Bernard Vermont, Ph.D., April 28, 2016.

Beloved husband of Dolores Vermont. Dear father of Laird (Sharon) Vermont and Jesse Vermont. Loving grandfather of Sage and Jordyn Vermont. Beloved brother of Harriet (Larry) Parnes and Bert Vermont. Dear brother-in-law of Leonard (Pat) Wissner and Stanley Wissner. Beloved son of the late Bill and Helen Vermont. Our dear uncle, cousin and friend.

George was a true people person who made friends wherever he went. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed talking to strangers, particularly children. He simply loved life and everyone around him. His kindness was matched only by his intelligence. With a PhD in chemistry, George became Director of Research at Mallinckrodt. In the mid 90’s, he was appointed Fellow of the Office of Science and Technology Policy under the Clinton Administration. Following his time at the White House, George joined the National Science Foundation as Director of Bioengineering where he continued to work up until his death. George made so many contributions to science as well as to his friends and family. He was a true gentleman and will be loved and missed by many.
