Ferd Isserman

Ferd Isserman, of Naples Florida, formerly from St. Louis, MO and River Forest, IL, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on August 14, 2017. He was 89 years old. Born in Toronto, Canada, he grew up in St. Louis, son of Rabbi Ferd and Ruth Isserman. He attended Washington University. During his college years he traveled with his father to the Nuremberg trials and was present during the Berlin airlift. He spent the summer of 1949 at Kibbutz Kfar Blum, Israel. Post college he was a businessman. He and his beloved wife, Bobbie, who died in their 40th year of marriage, participated in the rebirth of Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood where he served as “Mayor of Old Town” for several years. They also supported young artists and the arts. Ferd mentored young entrepreneurs, sharing with them his experiences and knowledge. He leaves behind many good friends. Ferd is survived by his children: Nancy (Joel Horwitz); Richard (Carla), Kathi (Kim Miller) and Susan Isserman; his step-children, Jenny (James Frost), and Don Kuntz (Becky), 6 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be on Thursday, August 17, 2017. Graveside ceremony for family will be at 1 pm at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL There will be a memorial service for Ferd at the Weinstein Chapel at 2:30 pm followed by a reception/shiva until 4:30 pm at Weinstein and Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, (847)-256-5700.
