Esther Feldman Levary

Esther Feldman Levary, died January 1, 2014. Born September 11, 1948, Esther was the beloved wife of Dr. Reuven Levary; beloved mother of David Levary, a student at Harvard; dear sister and sister-in-law of Susan (Dr. Allen) Reiter of Israel; devoted daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Feldman and the late Ann Feldman; devoted aunt of four nephews and dear friend to many. The first thing one noticed about Esther was her huge, bright smile and dark black curls, followed by her grace, lilting voice and quick wit. Her intelligence was always evident. Esther’s many creative talents included dancing (she taught Israeli dancing at Shaare Emeth), watercolor painting, drawing, singing, kosher cooking and knitting. She was passionate about her work as a speech and language therapist for Special School District for 36 years. She and Reuven traveled extensively in their 26 years of marriage, often with their son. Esther loved being a mother and was proud of her son and his many scholastic and scouting achievements. She enjoyed hiking and had recently taken up Tai Chi and ballroom dancing. Esther entered every activity with joy and enthusiasm. A born storyteller, she regaled listeners with accounts of her varied activities. Esther earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Wisconsin in Madison and later studied at Harvard University on sabbatical from SSD. She was always optimistic, loyal and generous to others, though modest about her own accomplishments. She loved Israel and being Jewish and was a proud member of Hadassah. She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
