Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Meyer

Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Meyer of Creve Coeur passed away on October 24, 2022, at age 91 after a brief illness. Liz was born October 5, 1931, in Ludwigshafen, Germany. She and her family fled Germany by train on Kristallnacht in 1938.

Liz grew up in Stuttgart, Arkansas and then graduated from Washington University with a degree in Business, where she met her husband. She married Harvey B. Meyer in January 1954.

Liz and her husband, an Army Judge Advocate General Corps Colonel, completed a 24-year military career living everywhere from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii to Heidelberg, Germany. They then settled back home in Creve Coeur where they lived for 42 years and shared a 66-year marriage.

Liz was a highly competitive duplicate bridge player and director, a Red Cross volunteer, and a charter member and volunteer at the St. Louis Lambert Field USO. Elizabeth was also very active with the Shaare Emeth sisterhood, interfaith council, and a frequent usher.

She is survived by her younger brother, Hans (Marcia) Oberdorfer, sister-in-laws, Eileen (Alan) Fleischer, Theo Meyer; son, Samuel Meyer (Pam Gwaltney), daughter, Suellen Meyer, beloved son-in-law Ralph Koppel; grandchildren, Julie (Joshua) Goldman, Michael Meyer, James Koppel (Jing Yu) and great-grandchildren Jason and Rebecca Goldman.

The funeral service will be held on October 27, 2022, at 1 p.m. at BERGER MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 9430 Olive Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO. Burial will be private. Covid safety protocols will be in effect. Please visit bergermemorialchapel.com for Live Stream information.
