Edward Marshall Rosen, Ph.D., January 28, 1930 – January 6, 2025
Edward passed away peacefully with family by his side in Durham, North Carolina.
Beloved husband of Sharon Kirsch; dear father and father-in-law of Howard Rosen, Sheila (Jim Erger) Rosen, bonus children Steven (Debra) Kirsch and Dr. Aimee (Dr. David) Zaas; dear grandfather of Jack, Daniel and Alex Erger, Melanie Kirsch, Jake and Jonah Zaas; beloved son of the late Frances and Benjamin Rosen; dear brother of the late Shirley Antell; dear brother-in-law of Rochelle (late Sheldon) Enger; dear uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Ed grew up in Chicago, obtained his BS and MA degrees in chemical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology followed by 2 years in the US Army. He then returned to the University of Illinois where he completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering followed by a Postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. Ed’s distinguished career spanned 34 years at Monsanto in St. Louis, where he rose to the prestigious position of Senior Fellow. He also was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering. Ed was internationally recognized as a pioneer in chemical engineering, particularly for his groundbreaking contributions to computing within the industry.
Ed and Sharon married in April, 2000 after becoming engaged on a trip to Israel. The new blended family of four adult children, spouses and then six grandchildren, brought much joy and many new adventures for close to 25 years
One could often see Ed at the J, LLI, Senior Olympics, playing tennis, biking, hiking, travels and as a docent for the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum. He will be fondly remembered for his wisdom, curiosity, humility, kindness, patience and especially his love and concern for his beloved family. A long beautiful life well lived.
Funeral Service Sunday, January 12, 1:30 PM (Also Available by livestream) at Congregation B’nai Amoona, 324 S. Mason Rd. 63141.
Interment following the service at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Rd. 63017. Memorial contributions preferred to Congregation B’nai Amoona, the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum and the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.
