Earl Stephen Changar, 83, of University City, MO; passed away peacefully on December 4, 2017 in St. Louis, MO
Earl was married to Jerilynn Changar, art educator, who died in 2009. Dear father and father-in-law to his wonderful children, Cindy Changar, Michael (Sharon) Changar, Amy Tempas, and the late Daniel (Connie) Changar. Loving grandfather of Antonio, Daniel (Jenna), Joseph, Matthew and Patrick. Beloved brother and brother-in-law of Esther (the late I.J.) Zuckerman and Robert (Alice) Joseph. Dear son of the late Morris and Sarah Changar. Beloved uncle of Molly (Alan), Sam (Cliff), David (Tanya), Melinda and Stephanie. Our dear cousin and friend.
Earl was born on October 26, 1934 in University City, MO to Morris and Sarah Changar. He went to high school at University City High School, and in 1957, he graduated from the Southern Optometry School of Memphis, TN with a Doctor of Optometry. He joined the Army in 1958 as an officer and spent the next three years in Europe as an optometrist for the army. Upon his return to St. Louis, he opened a private practice and continued to practice optometry until he retired in 2010. Earl served as president of the St. Louis Optometric Association and was elected president of the Missouri Optometric Association. He was voted Optometrist of the Year in the State of Missouri in 1971. Earl loved his dogs, Chester and Cindy Lou. He was a dedicated Spanish language learner and traveled to Costa Rica for the Spanish experience. Earl found much joy in growing and eating his own vegetables.
