Dr. Mark H. Comensky, April 24, 2025
Dr. Mark H. Comensky of Nevada, MO passed away on April 24, 2025 at age 72. Beloved father of his cherished son, Tiras Comensky. Loving brother of Larry (Faith) Comensky and Janis Comensky. Dear son of the late Irv Comensky and the late Shirley Roth and stepson of the late Hal Roth. Dear cousin and friend to so many. Cherished congregant of Rabbi Yosefa Martin and all the congregants at United Hebrew Congregation in Joplin, MO. Very special friend to Nancy White of Kansas City, MO and to Kevin Williams of Milo, MO, both who have been amazing, extraordinary friends to Mark for over thirty years. A special thanks to Kevin for all he has done for Mark over the years in so many ways!
Mark, a 1970 graduate of Ladue Horton Watkins High School, attended Southwest Missouri State University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Psychology. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
As a young man growing up in St. Louis, Mark was always involved in mentoring and helping young people better themselves to lead more productive lives. Mark was also an active member of AZA. While in college, Mark worked at a boy’s ranch counseling kids who came from broken homes. These early experiences laid the groundwork for Mark’s unwavering passion, dedication and commitment to supporting, helping and encouraging people, especially children for the rest of his life.
Mark moved to Nevada, MO while earning his Doctorate, where he would call home for over forty years. Mark was a well-known, highly respected and dearly beloved Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Professional Counselor throughout Nevada/Vernon County and the Southwest Missouri area for decades, never retiring. Mark was on the Committee for Professional Counselors for nearly 35 years. His heartfelt concern for his patients inspired him and drove his passion to help others every single day.
Dr. Mark, as he was called, took in numerous foster children and foreign exchange students throughout the years, opening up his heart and his home to these young kids. He’d take them traveling around the country and the world to give them as many new and positive experiences as possible.
Mark was a profound lover of animals. His compassion for animals was enormous. There literally wasn’t any kind of animal in need that wouldn’t have a forever home at Mark’s place.
Mark made time during his busy professional life to volunteer as a board member for thirty years for the Nevada Griffons Collegiate Baseball Team, which had some of its players advance to the major leagues. Mark would host these baseball players from around the country to stay at his home, which they thoroughly enjoyed. He’d prepare gourmet meals and just make it a wonderful fun experience for them. Probably the real reason they’d come back every year to play baseball!!!
Mark gave so much…to so many…for so long. Without a doubt, Mark fulfilled his purpose in life! He was an exceptionally talented person whose quest to help and give to others knew no boundaries.
Mark will be FOREVER missed and loved by his son Tiras, his brother Larry and wife Faith, his sister Janis, friends Nancy and Kevin, and by all of his family, great friends and patients. We are FOREVER grateful to have had Mark in our lives. Thank you, Mark, for your great big heart. You are in our hearts FOREVER.
