Dr. Jerrold “Jerry” Michaels

Dr. Jerrold “Jerry” Michaels, DVM born in Chicago, passed away April 6, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marian Michaels; his two daughters, Vanessa (Arthur) Ehrlich and Wendy (Scott) Shanker and Grandchildren: Lital Ehrlich (Cole Leiter), Jonathan Ehrlich, Samantha Shanker, Ethan Ehrlich, Jenna Shanker and great-grandchild, Esme Leiter.

He graduated from Hyde Park High School and received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in Psychology and Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He began practicing in Homewood and then established Fox Valley Animal Hospital in May of 1959 in Crystal Lake. During his early career he cared for both large and small animals. He continued practicing until his retirement in 2015.

He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Michaels was active in his community, serving on the board of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce, Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club, and was a founding member of the Great Books Club.

Services were Sunday, 10 AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 North Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. Interment Shalom Cemetery.
