Dr. Isaac Boniuk, died August 1, 2013. With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Dr. Isaac Boniuk (Sept. 11, 1938-Aug. 1, 2013). Devoted husband to Isabel for over 51 years; loving father of Jonathan (Rena) Boniuk, Wendy (Avi) Spiegelman, and Amy (Joshua) Brickel; loving grandfather of Yoseph, Gavriel, Shuey, Rivka, Elisheva, Adisu, Akiva, Naama, Adi, Asaf, Hadassah, Shoshana (of blessed memory), Tzipora, Tuvia, and Netanel. He was one of 5 children of the late Hyman and the late Rachel Boniuk and brother to the late Nina Regenstreif, the late Mitchell Boniuk, and is survived by his siblings Dr. Milton (Laurie) Boniuk, and Dr. Vivien (Dr. Arthur Cobin) Boniuk. Dr. Boniuk was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada and attended Dalhousie University in Halifax for college and medical school, completed his ophthalmology residency at UCSF, and his retinal fellowship at Barnes Hospital. He practiced for 38 years at Retinal Consultants and published numerous articles in clinical ophthalmology research. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Okinawa from 1966-68. Dr. Boniuk was active in countless Jewish organizations in St. Louis and was deeply committed to his synagogue, Traditional Congregation, where he served in many different capacities. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service Friday, August 2nd 2:00 PM at Traditional Congregation, 12437 Ladue Road. No visitation prior to service.
