Dottie Newman, a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother died May 26, 2015. Born in Ligonier, Indiana in 1922, “Dottie” was a graduate of Ligonier High School and the Moser Business College in Chicago. Dottie worked in the jewelry business and oversaw many of the company’s operations. In Indianapolis, she was a hostess for Welcome Wagon, welcoming new residents to the city. Later, she founded Guides and Gals, a touring company in Indianapolis. In addition, she volunteered as a board member and officer in the local chapters of NCJW, Temple Israel and IHC Sisterhoods. Dottie was affectionately called “St. Dot” as she was always there to support her husband with his career as the Executive Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Indianapolis. She was a wonderful matriarch of her family, showering her children and grandchildren with love and support. She will be remembered for her clever Rummikub skills and her loving and caring personality. A special thanks to her “friend” Sherry Mays who cared for and loved her for several years. Dottie was married to Frank (d 2011) for 65 years and is survived by her children, Robert (Jan) Newman of Hillsborough, Calif., Terry (Richard) Bernstein of St. Louis and Nancy Reiter of Indianapolis.
