Dorothy (Lippman) Bobrow

Dorothy (Lippman) Bobrow, dear Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, and friend. Dorothy Bobrow, daughter of Bertha (Prensky) and Frank Lippman, born November 2, 1918 – died peacefully surrounded by her family on May 14, 2017, at age 98 years in Maryland.  Dorothy grew up in Brooklyn, NY.  She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1935 and Skidmore College in 1939.  She married Leon Bobrow in 1943. He predeceased her in 1988.  She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Thelma Scott and Libby Wartels. Our Mother was remarkable in so many ways. She was smart, articulate, fiercely competitive for her family, fashionable, artistic, and musical, She valued education and had impeccable taste.  She taught us to be kind, to love family, to work hard, to give expression to our talents as well as our feelings, to have a strong sense of duty, and to retain an inner moral compass.  She taught us that, when we fight, we hold our positions but learn to forgive and forget; and, when we care, we care deeply and never abandon those we love.  She taught in the New York Public Schools for 25 years and left a legacy of children who were enlightened and uplifted as they passed through her classroom.  She leaves behind two sons: James (Nanci) Bobrow, MD, of St Louis; Donald (MaryHelen) Bobrow, of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren: Adam (Christina Lynch) Bobrow, of Bethesda, Md., Emily Bobrow (Harsha Thirumurthy) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Cary (Julie) Stallings, of Millis, Mass.; and Jason Stallings of Edgewater, Md.; and 6 great grandchildren: Leila and Abigail Bobrow, Reuben and Mira Thirumurthy, and Kaitlyn and Allison Stallings.  She also has left her positive imprint on the lives of so many others. Graveside ceremony will be held in New York. Contributions preferred to NCJW – St Louis Section.
