Donald Lewis Oglander, 91, of St. Louis, Missouri. passed away peacefully on January 20th 2025. He was a very gentle soul who never met a stranger and took genuine interest in everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Albert and Adele Oglander and his brother, Harold Oglander of St. Louis, Missouri
He is survived by his brother Robert Oglander (wife, Mitzi), his three children, Jeffrey Oglander (wife, Claire) of Tampa Florida, Lisa Sackellares (husband, John) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Carol Fieldhouse (husband, Tim) of Alpharetta, Georgia, and his seven grandchildren, Maxwell Oglander, Jacob Oglander, Caroline Raleigh, Carly and Ali Sackellares, Lauren Hurrell and Lisa Fieldhouse.
Donald spent the first half of his life in St. Louis Missouri. He had a deep nostalgia for his birthplace and the making of memories and friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. Donald graduated from Clayton High School where he lettered in basketball for the Greyhounds. He went on to attend Washington University where he was also a basketball star. He then attended the University of Miami. He later went on to serve in the United States Army for 2 years.
In 1960, he married Marjorie Oglander and began raising his family in St. Louis. He followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in the retail business for many years. In 1979, he moved his family to Florida and opened a book and office supply business in Sarasota with his brother Robert.
He later moved to Sanibel Island where he lived with his longtime companion, Joyce Jacobs. There, he was able to spend some quality time with his son, Jeff, wife Claire and 3 of his grandchildren. Donald worked for several years at the Sanibel Island Chamber of Commerce where he loved greeting people and making new friends.
Donald was a huge sports fan, and his true passion was the St. Louis Cardinals. He recently shared that he had not missed a season opening game in 80 years. In addition to his love of sports, he was a dog lover and had one by his side for most of his life. He also loved Broadway musicals and once shared about a time when he was called on stage to sing and perform with the actors. It was a memory he cherished. In addition, he loved to cook and “create” new dishes to share with family and friends.
In August of 2023 he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be close to his daughters. It was a special time for him and his daughters as they enjoyed many occasions cooking and frequenting his favorite restaurants.
Donald will be missed by many and may his memory be a blessing. He will be honored on Monday, March 31st at 10AM at United Hebrew Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
