Colonel (ret.) Richard D. Cohen

Colonel (ret.) Richard D. Cohen, died March 31, 2015. Husband of the late Phyllis Cohen (nee Gold); survived by his six children: Jim Cohen, Judy Faintich, JoAnn Cohen, Rick Cohen, Peggy King and Jeanne McKinnon, ten grandchildren, eight great-granddaughters and his sister, Margie Sokol. Richard was a native of St Louis and graduate of University City High School. He continued his education at Washington University, earning multiple degrees over the years. He was also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, University of Illinois, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, University of Southern California and others. Richard initially served in the Marine Corps, then as a National Guard Reservist and eventually retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army after over 34 years of military service. Richard, an electrical engineer, began his civilian career working in St. Louis for the family business, Glasco Electric Co. Returning to his military career, Richard was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington.  Retiring from the military, Richard and Phyllis settled in Seattle where he worked for another family owned electrical distributor, Stusser Electric.  Richard returned to his roots when he moved back to St. Louis in August, 2010. Richard was a member of Mensa, the ACLU and a volunteer when it came time to take the census, pickup household donations to be distributed to the less fortunate and serve in Sar-Al (the Israel Army Volunteer Corps). Funeral services will be held at the New Mount Sinai Mausoleum, 8430 Gravois Road, Monday, April 6 at 12:30 pm.
