Charles A. “Chuck” Johns Jr., age 69, died peacefully on May 17, 2017.
Survived by his devoted wife Wendy Lite-Johns of 26 years, beloved daughter Emily (Bryan Parmenter) Johns, and his four-legged boys Chase and Teddy. Cherished brother of Michael (Sandy) Johns, Judy (David) Weckherlin, Daniel (Dianna Heisse) Johns, Ginger (Rick) Ganninger and Richard (Kelly) Johns. Admired brother-in-law of Rick (Beth) Lite, Jayni (Jim) Frame and Jon Lite. Best friend and Airborne Brother of Paul Arca. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian Johns, and brother Jim (Joyce) Jarrell. Our dear nephew, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.
Chuck proudly served his country for 19 months in Vietnam from 1966-67, serving with both the 82nd Airborne Division and 173rd Airborne Brigade. In November 1967, he was a part of one of the most ferocious battles of the Vietnam War; The battle for Hill 875 Dak To, Vietnam. Chuck was one of the 254 wounded paratroopers who were carried off the hill, along with hundreds of his Airborne Brothers who were killed in action. He was an American Paratrooper and wore the Ranger Tab. Decorations included the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He continued to follow his heart for service as a Police Officer with the Overland Police Department for 8 years. In 1978, Chuck became a Security Officer for the McDonnell Douglas Corporation/The Boeing Company, retiring after 30 years in 2008.
Chuck’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Stephanie Hammer, Dr. Michael Bolger and Lori Adams; Dr. Michael Mauney, Dr. Shiraz Daud, Dr. Juan Garcia, Dr. James Bosanquet and all of those who cared for him through the years at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Also, many thanks to Dr. Stephen Veluz, Joe Grassino, Jessica Hohnsbehn and the phenomenal staff at Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital.
Funeral service Wednesday, May 24, 11:00AM at RINDKSOPF-ROTH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5216 Delmar Blvd. with interment to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road. Visitation for Mr. Johns 10:30AM Wednesday at Rindskopf-Roth. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, or to the Fisher House Foundation, or The Backstoppers Inc.
