Charlene Sherman Bry,  9/6/1939 to 7/12/2018.

Beloved mother, grandmother and community philanthropist Charlene Sherman Bry died on July 12, 2018. A renowned entrepreneur, Charlene was the owner and publisher of Ladue News from 1983 to 1997, building it from a monthly newsprint fold-out into a major local news publication. After selling the magazine, she authored a well-researched book on the history of Ladue, Ladue Found, and co-authored A World of Plants: The Missouri Botanical Garden. Widely involved in the St. Louis community, Charlene was recognized with numerous awards, including the Press Club’s Media Person of the Year in 2000, Woman of Achievement and the Hellenic Spirit Foundation’s Athena Award. She served on multiple nonprofit boards and widely supported the arts. Charlene was the daughter of Rose and Phillip Sherman (both deceased) and the sister of Jason Sherman and Martin Sherman (deceased). With her former husband, the late Richman Bry, Charlene raised three children, Richman Bry Jr. (Helene), Robert Martin Bry (deceased) and Lauren Bry Rechan (Michael). She was the loving grandmother of nine: Ryan, Aaron, Katie, Jackson, Mac, Bry, Tori, Cyrus and Kasey. She is also survived by her loving companion of 15 years, Morty Mitchell. A graduate of University City High School, Charlene attended University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and Washington University, receiving a master of liberal arts degree with thesis in 2013. She leaves behind a grieving community of family and friends. 

Funeral service Sunday, July 15th, 3:30 PM at New Mt. Sinai Mausoleum, 8430 Gravois. No visitation prior to service.
