Carl K. Sherman

Carl K. Sherman

Carl K. Sherman, September 9, 2019. Beloved husband of Helene Wagman Sherman for 53 years. Dear father of Craig Samuel Sherman and Ellen Sarah Sherman (Matthew) Wilson. Loving grandfather of Nathan, Henry and Theo Wilson and Daniel J. Sherman. Dear brother of Fred (the late Judy) Sherman and the late Allan L. (the late Barbara) Sherman. Dear son of the late Joseph and Ida Sherman. Our dear brother-in-law, cousin, uncle, and friend.

A native of St. Louis, Carl earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri Columbia and an MBA from Saint Louis University. After joining Chromalloy American Corp. in the 1970s, he rose through the ranks to become treasurer. After Chromalloy was acquired, he fulfilled a lifelong dream and opened his own business, St. Louis Shade and Hardware. He later joined Sunshine Drapery Company.

Modest and unpretentious, Carl was beloved across the community for his dignity, strength, and wisdom. He met people and life’s trials with an accepting disposition. Loyal to the core, he had untold numbers of lifelong friends. He never sought attention; honored twice by the Jewish Light, it was, on both occasions, as an Unsung Hero. But he had a wit that could puncture and restore sense to any discussion. He was fun; Carl enjoyed life every day. He was also an encyclopedia of the St. Louis Jewish business community; when it came to that subject, there was no need for Google. There was Carl.

Above all he cherished his family, to whom he was unfailingly supportive, understanding, and deeply, deeply loving.
