Betty was the valedictorian of her high school class and was awarded a full 4 year scholarship to Washington University. After school, she worked for several years at the Veterans Administration. She worked in retail for several years at Dillards and Saks Fifth Avenue, but what she enjoyed and was most proud of was being a lecturer for Weight Watchers for several years. She was not only proud of reaching her goal, but also took great pleasure in helping countless others reach theirs.

She was a very strong woman who faced life always with a positive attitude. In her latter years when faced with dementia and alzheimers, she still fought the battle always with a sweet positive demeanor and never give up attitude.   She finished her professional career, as she started, with the Federal Government at the Military Records Center where she eventually retired.

She was an avid reader and loved movies, theater and all types of music, especially Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis and Frank Sinatra. She loved to travel.  She was a huge pet lover, especially dogs. She belonged to N’AAMAT, which she enjoyed. She was a huge collector of porcelain statues, most especially loved collecting pineapples.

Betty was happily married to Stan Mitleider for over 60 years. He preceded her in death in March 2010. She was a very loyal, selfless and giving friend always willing to lend an ear to help in any way.  She was a very kind, devoted and loving mother and mother-in-law to her two children, and son-in-law, aunt, and grandmother and great-grandmother  to her 4 granddaughters and her great-grandson.
